Britain’s biggest second-hand cars trader, British Car Auctions, sold an extra 100,000 vehicles last year, taking its total to 1.29 million.
The business, which is listed as BCA Marketplace, made headline earnings of £98.5 million on total revenues of £1.15 billion in the 15 months to March.
It was acquired by transport industry veteran Avril Palmer-Baunack’s Haversham Holdings for £1.2 billion in March 2015.
She had floated the acquisition vehicle the previous November at 120p a share.
Today those shares rose 3p to 162p. “The new financial year has begun well,” said Palmer-Baunack, “and the board remains confident of the group’s performance.
“The team will continue to focus on our recently launched Together for Growth programme delivering exceptional service and innovation to our customers, a positive working environment for our employees and a financial return for our shareholders.”
As well as 23 auction sites across the country, BCA also runs the website We Buy Any Car, which is the biggest purchaser of used cars in the UK.
BCA is paying a maiden dividend of 6p a share.
