King’s Cross Central Partnership, led by property developer Argent which is redeveloping 67 acres at the north London site, said it will create a 10-storey building to house small and growing firms to be complete by 2017.

Sainsbury’s had originally eyed the site for a London headquarters.

Companies will be attracted to added quirks such as shops at the building and the three-screen cinema.

Work on the 150,000 square feet Duggan Morris Architects-designed proposals will start immediately and complete in 2017.

Joe Morris, founding director of Duggan Morris Architects said the property will be “welcoming and as permeable as possible… following the King’s Cross ideal that all buildings make a positive contribution to the public realm, through their character, hierarchy, and scale”.

The transformation of the area has already seen global brands such as Google and Louis Vuitton take headquarters there.
