And although calm returned to the streets today, there was a 2.6% fall in the market — the biggest daily fall since the protests began two months ago, with fears that the stand-off with police could turn more violent after 40 protesters and officers were injured.

CY Leung, Hong Kong’s chief executive, condemned the Hong Kong Federation of Students and Scholarism’s calls on activists to protest at government offices.
