Facebook sees opportunity in letting businesses reach customers on WhatsappComments Off on Facebook sees opportunity in letting businesses reach customers on Whatsapp
Mark Zuckerberg’s social media giant bought Whatsapp – which allows users to send messages over the internet – for $19 billion in October last year.
Since the takeover Whatsapp -which has around 800 million active monthly users – has grown rapidly, but has yet to prove it can be a money spinner for the social network. It has so far resisted paid-for features and ads.
Facebook’s chief financial officer David Wehner now says there could be “good business potential” in adding business-to-consumer messaging to the platform.
“As we learn those things, I think there’s going to be opportunities to bring some of those things to WhatsApp, but that’s more longer term,” he added.
The concept already exists on Facebook’s own messenger app, through which customers interact with companies and ask questions about orders.
Zuckerberg earlier this year demonstrated how users could pay for items and receive a receipt and follow-up customer service though the tool.
