EE recalls all power bars over fire risk concernsComments Off on EE recalls all power bars over fire risk concerns
EE is recalling all of its “power bar” portable phone chargers over concerns they could overheat and pose a fire risk.
The company is telling all customers to return the portable chargers to an EE store as soon as possible.
Anyone who hands in a power bar will be given a £20 voucher to spend on other EE accessories.
EE network users were given the chargers free during a promotion earlier this year.
The telecoms giant said on Wednesday it had taken the step as a precaution following a “very small number of incidents” where power bars had dangerously overheated.
A spokesman urged all customers to unplug the devices from phones and tablets and disconnect them from the mains.
The move comes just four months after an initial recall of one batch of the power bars for the same reason.
Customers at the time were told they would be sent safe replacements – which never happened.
It follows moves in recent weeks to recall and inspect hoverboards and Vauxhall Zafira cars amid fears they could combust or explode.
