Changing Britain: 1945-2015 at the Southbank Centre

Witness the astounding transformation that Britain has gone through with Changing Britain 1945-2015 at the Southbank Centre. A festival quite unlike any other, this highly ambitious project examines the last seven decades of British history through society, culture and politics.

The festival has been inspired by the history books written by David Kynaston, whose work explores the social history of the UK from the end of WWII to the present. The eclectic range of events build up to a number of focused weekends of talks, workshops and debates that aim to establish just how the country has progressed as a society and what the future holds for the UK after the next general election

Highlights include a series of performances from the BBC Concert Orchestra, playing favourite tunes from significant television events such as Hancock’s Half Hour and William Walton’s Coronation March. In a great example of looking to the future by understanding the past, find out just how the issues of welfare, immigration, equality and housing are making the headlines today just as they were 70 years ago.
