Celebrities including Hollywood star Samuel L Jackson have turned their hand to trading in the heart of the City to raise millions for charity.

Former footballer Rio Ferdinand, actor Tom Hardy, chef Jamie Oliver, cricketer Kevin Pietersen and presenter Jonathan Ross assisted brokers with multi-million pound deals on the trading floors in Canary Wharf.

Joanna Lumley, presenter Rachel Riley and model Lisa Snowdon also took to the trading floor as part of the annual BGC Charity Day — held every year in commemoration of the firm’s 658 employees who died in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11.

Jackson, raising money for cancer charity One For The Boys, said: “I am having a confusing amount of fun — it is all a bit frantic. The numbers are staggering. I think I have made some good deals — I hope so anyhow.”

Comedian Jimmy Carr, who hosted the day, said: “It is fantastic to see the celebrities here raising money. Traders and the City have a bad rep. But today proves that’s not always the case.

Many save deals to make them today to make money for so many brilliant causes.”
